NHS Car Parking and Sustainable Travel Network

Summary

The aim of this national NPAG Network   is to embrace the principles of Health Technical Memorandum (HTM) 07- 03 on best practice for NHS organisations dealing with car park management and sustainable travel. First launched in 2015, the group is now a highly regarded reference point for central bodies such as NHS England, the national Greener NHS Team and other organisations such as the   British Parking Association.

Current Challenges:

  • Members have identified a lack of definitive national guidance to support them and the wider NHS in the delivery or parking and sustainable travel, which we are seeking to help resolve.
  • Parking control and encouraging travel behaviour change are often treated as a political ‘hot potato’, with some colleagues often being wary of picking it up. However, with the right support and guidance, they can be one of the simplest ways to reduce journeys and to lower carbon emissions.
  • We need more members, from a greater variety of NHS situations, to provide greater support and share ideas.

What NPAG are doing:

  • Seeking to identify, promote and share experiences, knowledge and expertise of sustainable and active travel/ transport, parking strategy and management for NHS organisations.
  • Developing an updated resource library, aimed at increasing knowledge, time-saving and effectiveness for members when developing parking and sustainable travel measures.
  • Seeking to enhance networking opportunities and social support for members, both within and outside the NHS and become an ‘expert group’ in the field.
  • We meet four times a year with a format which includes the following aspects:
  • Minutes and Actions
  • Updates from NHS England, Greener NHS, BPA, IPC
  • Member or Supplier Presentations
  • Member Questions and Issues, plus review of previous network member requests.

Why choose NPAG?

  • The NPAG NHS Parking and Sustainable Travel Network is committed to making a difference, enabling a ‘Chatham House’ rules forum, supporting our members to freely share thoughts and ideas.
  • Membership is open to any NHS staff involved in providing sustainable travel or parking management as part of their role, whatever their level or experience.
  • Use of the NPAG Network, which is exclusive to our Groups, gives a resource library of shareable information at the touch of a button, plus an opportunity for members to learn and expand their knowledge.
  • NPAG is a member of the CPD Certification Service. The 2025 is CPD Certified for up to 20 hours of certified related content.
